Episode 13

Faith Contrasted With Works of Law

This episode discusses the nature of saving faith. In contrasting it with works, Paul does not negate all works, but works of which one could boast. Faith, by its very nature, works or it isn't faith.

Works of law, however, are dependent on the human performance of perfect law-keeping. Though it isn't possible to accomplish, when one depends upon themselves instead of Christ's redemptive work, their salvation is no longer dependent on grace. In fact, two people can do exactly the same thing (in so far as their deeds), one seeking justification based on their deeds and the other depending on Christ. The deeds of the first is their means of justification. The deeds of the later is a by-product of their faith.
